Creative Studies Alumni Network Constitution

for the Alumni Chapter at Buffalo State College, State University of New York
ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this organization is Creative Connections Network Chapter of the Buffalo State College Alumni Association, operating under the powers granted by the constitution and by-laws of the general Alumni Association at Buffalo State College, State University of New York ("Buffalo State College").
ARTICLE II. PURPOSE
This chapter shall be one of other similar constituent groups forming the larger body known as the Buffalo State College Alumni Association, and pledges itself to cooperate with the work of the Alumni Association as defined in the constitution and by-laws of the Association. This chapter is formed to:
*promote networking opportunities for alumni and current students at Buffalo State College.
*promote awareness of the universal applications of creativity and creative problem solving in our community and beyond.
* enhance continued education on a personal and professional level. through the sharing of experience, to assist members in the development of diverse knowledge and skill base.
ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. All constituency graduates of Buffalo State College, the International Center for Studies in Creativity and all other persons sharing an interest in Creativity are eligible for membership in this organization.
ARTICLE IV. OFFICERS
Section 1. The officers of the chapter shall consist of president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer.
Section 2. The duties of the officers shall be such that are generally exercised by officers, and those that may be assigned to them by the executive planning board from time to time.
Section 3. Officers serve one-year terms or until their successors are elected at the designated November meeting of the chapter. Ceremonial transition takes place in December with actual term commencing the first day of January.
ARTICLE V. EXECUTIVE PLANNING BOARD
Section 1. The government of the chapter and the direction of its activities shall be vested in the executive planning board. It is comprised of the officers and attending members. Members of the planning board serve on a voluntary basis. (Membership should consist of six to eight people who are representative of the constituency in terms of age, profession, geographical distribution, etc.)
Section 2. Board meetings shall be held at least 10-12 times per year.
Section 3. The board shall have full power to fill all vacancies that may occur during the year to serve until the following regular election.
Section 4. The planning board may, from time to time, appoint such subordinate officers, agents, and committees as in its judgment the interests of the chapter may require, and may prescribe the duties of such appointees.
Section 5. The executive planning board shall maintain mutual communication with the alumni affairs director, or designee, as an ex-officio member of the alumni affairs office, as required.
ARTICLE VI. CHAPTER MEETINGS
Section 1. The annual meeting shall be held in January.
Section 2. There shall be at least 10-12 regular meetings of the chapter each year subject to the call of the board of directors.
Section 3. Special meetings of the chapter may be called at any time by the executive planning board.
Section 4. A special meeting of the chapter shall be called by the president upon the written request of five members of the chapter.
ARTICLE VIII. ELECTIONS
Section 1. Elections to fill the expiring terms of officers shall be held in the November meeting of the chapter. Terms to commence January 1st of the new year.
Section 2. Election shall be by majority vote of those members present at the annual meeting. In the event that there is only one candidate nominated for the position, the executive planning board has the authority to appoint the candidate to said position.
ARTICLE IX. PROCEDURE
Section 1. The fiscal year shall begin on July 1 and continue through June 30.
Section 2. To meet temporary conditions as they arise, the executive planning may adopt bylaws.
Section 3. This constitution may be amended at a meeting of the executive planning board by an affirmative vote of two thirds of the total members present. Proposed amendments must be presented to the board at least 25 days in advance of a vote.
